Martell Mallet, former Golden Lion and 2008 University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Agriculture Business major is now a National Football League (NFL) Philadelphia Eagle.
Mallet says his decision to play football was inspired by his brother, “[he] showed me what not to do,” says Mallet. He also said Ladell Jordan, his high school position coach, taught him what toughness was all about. Mallet reflected on his career at Pine Bluff High School where he rushed for over 3,300 yards and scored 40 touchdowns after having started for only two seasons. He was the all-time leader in yards in a season, game, career and rushing touchdowns in a season and tied for first in touchdowns in a game. He graduated from PBHS with a 3.3 GPA, received all state honors during his junior and senior seasons along with many other awards, a trip to the Landers awards show which hosts the top 10 players in the state and the retirement of his jersey (#7). He also stated that his high school coach was very influential to him.
“I am aware that I have to stay focused and continue to work hard in order to have a successful career in the NFL", says Mallet.
The family man reiterated further reasons for his determination, “I do what I do because I want my daughter and my family to be able to live comfortably so I can have a solid foundation for them - not for me. I'm pleased just by seeing them happy.”
